What Your Fees Cover
I’m all about keeping things transparent. Therapy is pricey (I’m paying for it too!).
So, here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how your fees help keep the therapy wheels turning.
-
I currently work part-time and have a limit of 10 spots available per week.
-
What do they say about death and taxes?
A portion of your fee (about 35%) goes towards taxes, helping the government fund things like traffic lights, building Sydney Metro, and doorknobs (apparently?)
-
You’re the one who keeps the lights on and the Wi-Fi going.
Running an online practice is cheaper than in-person, but a portion of the session fees pay for things such as merchant fees, Zoom subscriptions, practice tools, insurance, and website upkeep.
-
All registered therapists cough up an annual fee to stay in the “cool club” of accredited professionals. This can range between $350 to $640 a year.
A part of our accreditation is also getting regular clinical supervision with seasoned therapists. This is typically no less than once a month and costs around $150 to 200 per session.
-
One reason I love being a therapist is the endless learning.
To keep my registration, I need 25 hours of continued education a year, which ranges from a few hundred to tens of thousands of dollars per course.
Do you take Medicare, NDIS, or private health insurance?
-
In Australia, the Medicare Mental Health Care Plan covers sessions with psychologists, not counsellors. So, while I’d love to help you save some cash, unfortunately, counselling sessions can’t be claimed through Medicare.
-
Counselling can be part of your NDIS 'Improved Daily Living' plan, but I’m not registered to bill for this service right now.
I understand that life happens.
If you need to cancel or reschedule your session, just give me a heads-up at least 24 hours in advance.
If I don't hear from you in time, or if you miss the appointment, you will still be charged the full session fee.
You can reschedule or cancel your session using the link in your confirmation email/calendar invitation, or directly from your Calendly meetings page.

That’s all nice. But I really can’t afford $130-170 per session.
That is absolutely okay. I’ve been in the same boat.
If you're not in a place to work with me right now, you're not alone and there is still support available.
Here are some free or low-cost resources to help you get by.
Currently, I offer one spot per caseload at $90 per session for those experiencing financial hardship.
If you think this might be a good fit for you, just shoot me an email at hello@curiouscounselling.com.au to check availability.
